KIA Officers Arrested In Myitkyina

On Monday, regime soldiers arrested two members of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) during a midnight raid on the guesthouse where the officers were sleeping in Myitkyina.

Warrant officer 1 Ah Dau of KIA Battalion 11 and warrant officer 1 N’khum La, who works in the Mali Ginwang Daw area, were arrested at Golden Butterfly Guest House in Njang Dung Ward.

“Probably informants for the Burma army reported where they were staying,” a man close to the Kachin armed group that is fighting the military regime has told KNG on condition of anonymity.

There are many informants who make it dangerous for members of the KIA or its political wing, the Kachin Independence Organisation (KIO) to be active in the capital of Kachin State.

“Many KIO/KIA officers have already been arrested. The news leaks out very fast about which guesthouse they are staying in. Many businessmen have become cronies who support the military regime,” said an anonymous man from Myitkyina who is close to the resistance groups.

In the first week of May, soldiers arrested six people at Happy KTV, but after the Kachin Peace-talk Creation Group mediated with regime leaders, three of them were released.

In Hpakant Township, at least eight KIA soldiers were arrested last month.
