Nursing Home Opens In Myitkyina

A nursing home that opened in Myitkyina in early May has filled an important niche for seniors in need of loving care and a home in the capital of Kachin State.

“We opened this care home for the elderly because we do not want them to be neglected. We want to take care of these people” and provide for their mental and physical well-being, explained U Khun Gam, who is working with the lodge located at the foot of Jaw Bum.

There’s five people from Sumprabum and Waingmaw townships living at the home, which takes in people aged 70 and above. Khun Gam said they hope to help people with physical or mental disabilities in the future.

“We need more financial support to run this nursing home. Their relatives have provided us with rice and cooking oil” he said, but residents also need medicines and other things to fulfill their daily needs.

Currently, the home, the first of its kind to help Christians in Kachin State, has not received help from outside donors. However, Khun Gam hopes they’ll receive financial support from the community soon.
