KIA Seizes Regime Camp Near Namsan Yang
The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) successfully captured the Burma army’s Lailum Awng Ja military camp in Momauk Township of Kachin State after a ten-hour attack on Friday.
According to a KIA officer, this was the second Lailum Awng Ja camp they had seized, following the capture of one near a school in August. In total, there are three camps, all of which are located near Awng Ja village, separated from Namsan Yang village by a creek on the Myitkyina – Bhamo road.
“Our troops captured the second Lailum Awng Ja camp today, which is situated near a bridge and road. We initiated the attack on the camp around 2 am early in the morning and successfully captured it around 1 pm. after the Burma army soldiers retreated,” he mentioned. The regime suffered significant losses during the fighting, and the KIA also incurred some casualties.
Two junta transport helicopters dropped 12 bags of weapons and food rations for their soldiers, but most of them were captured by the KIA. Two fighter jets also attacked the Kachin troops during the clash in the Lailum Awng Ja camp, but the bombs landed in different locations, and fortunately, no KIA soldiers were killed during the airstrikes.
The junta is preparing to send soldiers with three military trucks from Myitkyina to the Awng Ja area. “At the moment, Burma army soldiers have retreated from this area, but we have heard that a military column will be coming from Myitkyina.”
Fighting has continued with the regime in the Namsan Yang area, not far from the Laiza headquarters of the KIA’s political wing, the Kachin Independence Organisation, for the past four months.
