KIA Attacks Military In Waimaw

On Wednesday, two clashes took place between Battalion 3 of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), under Brigade 5, and regime forces on the road between Waimaw and Chipwi in Waimaw Township.

The KIA ambushed a column of 30 soldiers from the 521 Light Infantry Battalion travelling from Sani Khu to Lor Hser at 9am. Later, the Kachin soldiers attacked 20 soldiers who had been sent to support the column around noon.

“Another military column that went to help the previous column was also attacked by KIA troops between Washawng and Num Maw Yang,” a local source close to the KIA told KNG, on condition of anonymity.

Locals suspect that the regime suffered casualties, but KNG cannot independently confirm this information.

The KIA often fights the military and the People’s Militia Force in the township in Kachin State.
