KIA Raid Junta Camps In Mogaung Township

The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) captured and destroyed two regime camps in Mogaung Township, Kachin State. In the attacks around 3am on 24 December, KIA Battalion 44 (Brigade 9) attacked Burma Army (BA) Light Infantry Battalions 383 and 384.

Naw Bu, spokesperson for the armed group’s political wing, Kachin Independence Organisation, confirmed that Kachin soldiers set fire to the camps near Kanyin Myine village after leaving them, but could not confirm if there were any casualties.

A Kachin soldier on the front line told KNG that fighters from the People’s Defence Forces supported the KIA in the attacks and together captured weapons, ammunition and other valuable military equipment before destroying the camps. He said they retreated after the BA repulsed them with an air strike at around 5am. Regime troops based in Sar Maw village about two miles away also fired artillery at them.

On 23 December, the KIA Battalion (Brigade 9) fought with the Burma Army in the Janga Kon area of Hpakant Township.
