Civilian Killed Near Tatmadaw Camp In Waingmaw Township

A villager from Ma Dein was shot dead last Saturday, August 28, while walking past a Burma Army (BA) Infantry Battalion 58 in Waingmaw Township, Kachin State.

The bullet-riddled body of Lon Bang Hkaw Zung was found the same morning BA shot him dead, a local source told KNG. His body was taken to Waingmaw Hospital for autopsy and cremated on Sunday.

According to the source, most residents living in Ma Dein and Hka Kun have to pass by the BA camp to reach their rice farms.

On the same day of Lon Bang Hkaw Zung’s death, BA fired artillery and small arms indiscriminately at around 1pm, with some of the shells landing in the villages of Tang Bawng, Ma Dein and Hka Kun, damaging some houses. In addition, the military arrested a 20-year-old man in Waingmaw town.

The military shelled and fired indiscriminately throughout the night and the following day, prompting some villagers to seek safety in Waingmaw town.

On August 7, a woman was killed in Wu Yang after the BA shelled her village. Several houses sustained damages during the attack.
