Military Checkpoint Attacked With Grenades in Hpakant Township

Two people on a motorcycle attacked a military checkpoint with grenades in Hpakant Township, Kachin State, on Wednesday morning, July 22.

According to a man from the area who asked for his name to not be published, the People’s Defense Force attacked the checkpoint on the Kamine-Hpakant road, in the town of Kamine, at 7am.

“They threw two grenades into the checkpoint where four soldiers were sitting. I heard the soldiers died on the spot and that the checkpoint was also damaged,” the man said. At 10am, police and soldiers were investigating the checkpoint.

A official from Kamine Administration Council, a local department of the military regime, told KNG that no one was hurt, and the checkpoint was not damaged during the explosion but didn’t know which organisation was behind the attack.

A Kachin Independence Army (KIA) official told KNG that the ethnic armed organisation had nothing to do with it. KIA attacked the military four times in Hpakant Township in the last week.
