Four COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Burma’s jade-rich Hpakant town, located in Kachin State. The new transmissions may have been infected by Case 1712, which they all had direct contact with.
Tint Naing, who’s the deputy head of Kachin State Health Department, told KNG they’re being held in a quarantine facility in the state. At least 20 who had contact with confirmed cases were also quarantined and tested for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.
Since September 11, the regional government has locked down Tawng Pyo village, located in Aye Mya Thayar village-tract, where Case 1712 arrived on August 13 from Sittwe.
Burma experienced a rapid outbreak after a bank employee in the Rakhine State capital, Sittwe, tested positive on August 16.
MoHS reported 4,299 transmissions on September 18, while 944 of these were recovered and 61 died.
