Police Officer Killed In Hpakant
A police officer was shot dead in broad daylight on the street in front of a bank by an unknown assailant in a village in Hpakant Township.
At 7am on Wednesday, the assailant fired 10 shots at Ko Ko Lwin of Police Battalion 30 at Branch 2 of Kambawza Bank in Maw Sheng.
A man who requested anonymity said the body had already been taken away when he arrived at the scene. Although the killer has not been identified, Ko Ko Lwin is well known after he arrested Thein Tun and seven other protesters demonstrating against the regime in Seng Tawng last month.
“It’s the reason he was killed,” said another man who asked that his identity be protected.
Since the military coup, more than 20 village leaders who collaborated with the regime or citizens accused of being informants have been killed in Hpakant.
