On Monday, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) ambushed a military convoy with a landmine in Mohnyin Township, Kachin State. The KIA claimed to have killed at least seven Burma Army (BA) soldiers. The Kachin armed group was supported by the People’s Defence Force (PDF), a civilian resistance group that took up arms against the dictatorship after the regime violently attacked peaceful demonstrators.
A frontline KIA officer told KNG he heard that a BA captain was among those killed in the ambush on the convoy at 6am as it was travelling between Shan Nyaung Kong and Letpan Thar villages.
As a result, BA launched an artillery attack and shelled the area where the fighting was taking place and the village of Namma. Near the entrance of the village, three houses were damaged and two cows were killed by shells, a local told KNG. After the ambush, the convoy continued towards Myitkyina, the capital of Kachin State.
The KIA has carried out many ambushes on BA convoys passing through the township in Kachin State.
On 25 November, BA launched an air strike on KIA troops near Inndawgyi Lake.
