KIA Topples Five Strategic Regime Camps in Same Day in Kachin State

The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and its allied forces have overrun five camps from the Military Council in a single day in Kachin State, including the strategic Sadung (also Sadon) hilltop camp, which housed the regime’s tactical command for the area.

A frontline KIA soldier remarked that the Sadung regime installation was dismantled by 5 pm on June 11, indicating that the Kachin armed group now fully controls the entire stretch of the road from Sadung to Waingmaw, with no remaining regime or People’s Militia Force (PMF) camps.

Approximately 25 miles east of Sadung, however, he noted that Kanpaiti remains in the hands of the Military Council.

The Sadung hilltop camp was located on a hill east of Sadung town, protected by three auxiliary outposts, all of which have also been captured.

The KIA soldiers reported that they dismantled the Gawset Yang 13-mile checkpoint, Bum (mountain) Tawng PMF, and La Hpai PMF camps before lunchtime. Additionally, Ding Ga camp was captured. All of these camps are situated between Chipwi, Kanpaiti, Sadung, and Waingmaw.

Col Naw Bu, spokesperson for the KIA and its political wing, the Kachin Independence Organisation, stated, “All of the military camps that we seized are strategically very important.” Some were on the way to Kanpaiti and Chipwi where regime and PMF soldiers used to extort money from travellers on the road and facilitate the entry of Chinese individuals into the country. “These camps posed a threat to KIA’s Battalion 3,” he emphasised.

Since March, the KIA has seized all of the junta’s camps in Waingmaw Township. Last month, it captured 13 camps around the town sharing the same name.
