SAC Shelling Kills Another Civilian in Indawgyi Lake Town

A civilian is dead, and another person was injured after the State Administration Council (SAC) shelled the town of Namma near Indawgyi Lake in Kachin State on Monday from two miles away.

“The artillery battalion let loose two shells, and one landed in front of a school on the road in Nyaung Pin Tha ward. Shrapnel penetrated a local man riding his motorcycle, killing him instantly,” said a 52-year-old man living in the town in Mohnyin Township. The source mentioned that the shelling also injured a man with a mental illness.

The attack claimed the life of U Myint Pe, 60, from Nam Salaw village, while Ko Tun Oo sustained injuries.

According to a local source, previously, only Light Infantry Battalion 386 and 385 were stationed outside of the town. However, now No-367 Artillery Battalion is based there and is responsible for the attacks on Monday.

On the preceding Saturday, January 27, the artillery battalion attacked the town and nearby villages, resulting in the deaths of Daw Nwe Nwe Oo and her daughter Ma Cho Tar Bee, along with an unnamed 20-year-old man from the village of Kathe Kon.

Many residents have fled to other areas after the shelling affected the town.

SAC has increasingly relied on air attacks, leading to a sharp rise in civilian fatalities, as many armed groups have taken control of its bases and captured numerous towns across the country.
