SAC Retreats from Six Camps in Kachin State

On Tuesday, troops from the State Administration Council (SAC) have withdrawn from another camp near a village in Putao District in anticipation of an attack by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and People’s Defence Force (PDF) in northern Burma.

The Burma army and People’s Militia Force established their camp near the village of N’hka Ga along the river of the same name in KIA’s Battalion 7 (under Brigade 1) a decade ago. It is located about an hour by boat from Machanbaw.

SAC soldiers also retreated from five military outposts around the Mang Weing Gyi area in Bhamo District under KIA’s Battalion 27, part of Brigade 3, from November to December.

“Burma army soldiers retreated from five military outposts around the Mang Weing Gyi area in Mansi Township” to a larger camp in the township, a local source said. In early November, 30 soldiers from Pin Lon camp were the first to retreat. After December 10, the other outposts withdrew to their larger camp. All five camps were established in 2012.

Currently, SAC and KIA are in a standoff in Tarlawgyi in Myitkyina Township and Shwe Nyaung Pin in Waingmaw Township.
