Junta Shelling Injures Kutkai Woman
A mother was injured when Infantry Battalion 123 shelled a village in Kutkai Township on the evening of 9 July.
“Burma army soldiers in Namhpetka frequently fire artillery shells even though there are no clashes in the area. Recently, they fired in different directions and one shell landed in Ner Hpai, injuring the woman,” a man told KNG, preferring to remain anonymous.
Daw Hkanda Bauk San Mai (23) is receiving medical treatment in Demer.
Soldiers have banned residents of Namhpetka and Nammaw Pa from going to their rice farms and gardens after 6:30pm, where the military has stepped up operations in the township in northern Shan State since late last month.
“Several Burma army columns have entered Laukkai, Kutkai and Muse townships from Lashio, the headquarters of North-eastern Military Command, to Laukkai, Kutkai and Muse townships. They mainly attack Shan State Progress Party, Kachin Independence Army and Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army in northern Shan State,” a political analyst told KNG, requesting anonymity.
On 8 July, the KIA ambushed a column of the Light Infantry Division 99 near Mang Piang on its way from Hsenwi, also called Theinni, to Kutkai.
