Marauding Soldiers Torch Homes In Shwegu Township
Regime columns of about 300 soldiers have burnt down at least 10 villages in the southeast of Shwegu Township and since 3 March they’re continued their wanton vandalism west of the township.
“People are fleeing their villages and seeking shelter in safer areas,” said an anonymous woman from Shwegu town.
A man who also requested anonymity said the soldiers from Infantry Battalions 77 and 10 recently attacked eight houses in Bo Kon and some in Chaungwa. Each village has about 300 houses. The man couldn’t say how many were set afire in Chaungwa because there is no phone service in these areas of Kachin State.
One of the columns is staying in Bo Kon and the other in Thabyay Hla.
In March, the soldiers burned houses in Namlan, Nawng Latt Gyi, Mang Weing, Si Tha and Si Thaung in the southeast of the township.
