Earthquake Hits Indawgyi Lake
On Wednesday, an earthquake destroyed houses and knocked down power lines around Indawgyi Lake in the Sagaing Region.
“The first earthquake destroyed many properties and houses in the area, but there were no fatalities,” said a man from Mong Nawng whose TV was smashed when it fell to the ground.
He said some brick houses collapsed and the concrete of a Shan office in the village cracked when the first quake struck at around 5.30pm. Lung Tonne and Hel Pu villages were also affected by the 5.9 magnitude quake.
Another man said power was out after electricity poles fell and a large crack appeared in the ground at 19 Miles on the Indawgyi to Hopin road.
The earthquake also hit Hpakant, Mohnyin and Namma areas.
A second quake occurred at 9pm that day and a third at 7am on 1 June.
According to locals, the region around Indawgyi Lake was last hit by a strong earthquake in the late 1980s.
