Five Youths Arrested for Demonstrating in Putao
Five youths who joined protests against the military regime were arrested in Putao.
The youths hid in the jungle on February 9 after learning security forces planned to arrest them for leading protests in the small town in northern Burma. They were discovered about 12 days later.
“I think someone leaked the information because the soldiers didn’t know where they were hiding,” a anonymous source told KNG, adding that they aren’t protest leaders.
Demonstrations in Putao have thinned out after rumors spread that authorities plan to arrest more people.
Protests in Kachin State against the military have been happening everyday since February 8.
At least 10 people were arrested for demonstrating in Myitkyina. They were freed after Kachin Peace-talk Creation Group (PCG) negotiated with security forces for their release.
