A Burmese military truck was attacked by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) yesterday at around 5 p.m., in N’mawk Township, Manmaw District, in Burma’s Northern Kachin State.
The attack happened during 2 days of talks between delegates from the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO), the political wing of the KIA, and the Burmese government at the KIO’s Laja Yang Liaison Office to negotiate a new ceasefire.
The truck with military personnel, policemen and intelligence agents from Military Affairs Security (MAS), was fired upon on the road connecting N’mawk (Momauk) and two Taping (Dapein) dams, near the China border in the KIA’s Battalion 15 area, sources at the scene said.
Witnesses told the Kachin News Group there were casualties in the attack but the exact figure is not known.
